37. Soccer balls were originally single coloured. They received their well-known black and white checkered design in 1970, when they wanted to televise the world cup. The new design was easier to spot on TV!
38. Why is the white flag white? There are many theories, but the most probable is that during the ancient times, white robes were the most common colour, and they looked quite visible on all terrains…!
39. Why are blackbelts black? The most likely story is that white belts used to be dyed to a new colour upon a student’s advancement to a higher level, getting increasingly darker: white, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, brown, red, and finally black.
40. Wedding dresses in Great Britain were quite varied in colour until 1840, when Queen Victoria donned a white lace gown. After the event it became quite popular, because it was “the Queen’s choice”.
